4-Hour Live Online Course

The face reflects far more than the condition of the skin. In Five Element acupuncture, it can provide valuable insight into a patient’s constitution, emotional state, and overall health—and help us understand why certain patterns appear on the face in the first place.

In this four-hour course, Michelle Gellis, AP, LAc, MAc, DiplAc, explores how the principles of Five Element acupuncture can be incorporated into facial acupuncture treatments to address both the physical appearance of the face and the person as a whole.

You will learn how each of the Five Elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—may be reflected in facial color, expression, features, lines and wrinkles, and other patterns. Rather than simply treating a wrinkle or area of concern, you will learn to look at what the face may be communicating and use that information to guide treatment.

The course also explores the relationship between the face, emotions, and the nervous system, including how stress and long-standing emotional patterns can influence facial expression and muscular tension.

Michelle will introduce important Five Element concepts that can deepen facial treatments, including constitutional diagnosis, the spirit and emotional qualities of acupuncture points, treatment blocks, Windows of the Sky, and the upper Kidney points. You will learn how these concepts can be incorporated into a practical facial acupuncture treatment without needing to become a Five Element practitioner.

Topics include:

  • Recognizing Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water patterns in the face
  • Facial color, expression, features, lines, wrinkles, and constitutional tendencies
  • Understanding elements when they are in balance and out of balance
  • The relationship between emotions, facial expression, muscular tension, and the nervous system
  • Using constitutional and body points to support facial treatments
  • The spirit and emotional qualities of acupuncture points
  • Windows of the Sky and their relevance to treating the face
  • Upper Kidney points and their emotional and constitutional applications
  • Recognizing treatment blocks that may interfere with a patient’s response to treatment
  • Integrating Five Element principles into cosmetic and therapeutic facial acupuncture

This course is designed for acupuncturists who want to move beyond treating the surface of the face and develop a deeper understanding of the person and patterns they are treating.
